National Institute for Rubber Training

Training is one of the major functions envisaged under the Rubber Act.  An exclusive Department for Training was established in 1994 to undertake the growing need for training and skill development  of all stake holders of the rubber sector, on account of the development of  rubber industry in the country. Subsequently in 2000, the Rubber Training Centre with full infrastructure was established and later in 2010 the Centre was elevated to the status of Rubber Training Institute (RTI). In 2021, the Institute was renamed as National Institute for Rubber Training (NIRT).  The mandate of the NIRT is human resource development by providing state of the art technological training and developing adequate skill in all segments of the rubber industry comprising of rubber production, processing, product manufacture, marketing and consuming sectors. Updating technical knowledge and acquiring adequate skill are very essential for the sustainability each of these sectors. The Institute has thus a significant role in the development and sustainability of the Indian rubber industry and aims to meet the growing training and skill development requirements of all segments of the rubber industry value chain.

Since its inception in 1947, the Rubber Board had been developing expertise required for the systematic development of the rubber industry in India through R&D and Extension activities by constant interaction with the clients. The Rubber Board has the experience and expertise necessary for giving proper advice to the rubber growers, rubber processors and rubber product manufacturers for practicing modern scientific, cost effective and quality oriented techniques in the respective areas. Besides the training and skill development requirements of the stake holders, the HR development of the Board through updating the technical and managerial skills of its employees is also addressed by the NIRT. The Institute also trains students of Plant Science/ Polymer Technology/Engineering disciplines from various academic Institutions in rubber cultivation and rubber technology areas for employability enhancement and entrepreneurship development in this sector.

NIRT is an ISO 9001-2015 certified establishment committed to meet the training needs of the Indian rubber sector including that of Rubber Board to ensure availability of competent and skilled personnel. Thus every year more than 50 different course modules of widely varying subjects and duration are designed based on the requirements of the clientele groups and announced as per the Annual Training Calendar. The Institute also arranges external training to the employees of the Board in various Institutions of Excellence as per specific training needs at the work front.

In addition to the ongoing Plan Scheme component on HRD - Training, NIRT has undertaken external funded projects for skill development under the Pradhan Manthri Kausal Vikas Yogna (PMKVY) Scheme in convergence with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Govt. of India and employability enhancement programmes for academic students under the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme, Higher Education Department, Govt. of Kerala. The Institute has also collaborated with various Institutes, Industries, Universities, Professional Bodies, Government Departments, Private Sector etc. for promoting entrepreneurship, updating technical knowledge and imparting training/skill development towards employment generation.
